Welcome back to blogging after what seems like ages. I have away from blogging here for 2-3 years due certain personal commitments. Its really good to be back to blogging and writing.
I am starting the blogging about views on The Suitable Boy written by Vikram Seth. Usually I read the book first before I see the movie or series. With The Suitable Boy, I saw the series first in Netflix few years back, maybe 2 or 3 years back. After that I wanted to get around to reading the book. Finally I came across signed copy of the series (maybe limited copies not sure, I am just guessing) being sold in Instagram and brought it in 2023.
But I got around to reading it this year (2025) in June and finished the series in October 2025. It took me really really long time to finish the series.
Set in post-Independence India, the story beautifully captures the intertwined lives of three major families. At its heart is Mrs. Rupa Mehra, ever anxious about finding the right match for her daughter Lata and securing the future of her son Varun. Her world collides with that of her daughter-in-law Meenakshi, a charming Bengali from a reputed lawyer’s family — their relationship adds a fascinating layer of contrast and class.
The novel unfolds the political ambitions and moral dilemmas of Mahesh Kapoor’s family, interwoven with the Nawab Sahib’s household, painting a vivid portrait of post-Partition India — its hopes, divides, and transformations.
A long read, but a deeply rewarding one. 💫Have you read The Suitable Boy or watched the series adaptation? What did you think of Lata’s choice?
