It’s a late review post on Eragon, 1st part of Inheritance series. I got the book series as a gift for 2024 birthday from my husband. I just got around to reading it last month. I am currently reading Eldest, the second part of the series.
A Elf along with two guards carry a unique stone to a secret place through a forest. On route to their destination, they are attacked by Shade and Urgals (ugly looking creatures, but strong when it comes to fighting). The Elf leaves the stone and is taken by the attackers, only for the stone to be found by the central character Eragon. He tries to sell the stone during the course of the story, but is unable to. The stone happens to a shell protecting a baby dragon, who eventually comes of the stone. As a result, he becomes a rider and dragon his companion and is named Sapphire.
The kings sends some black strange looking creatures in search of the stone and Eragon. They kill the Eragon’s uncle and his house is completely damaged. Eragon wants to take revenge and takes help of Brom, the town’s storyteller. Brom has past with the king and Varden who are fighting the king.

The image beautifully captures the climax of the book showcasing the battle between Eragon and Shade.
What happens then makes the rest of the story. There is a lot to back story and history to the characters, stone and dragons. Sometimes it is difficult to remember as we proceed to the next part of the book. The first book was exciting and ends in high note, making us wonder what happens next in the story. There are lot magic involved in the story, just like Harry Potter, but one uses ancient words and other a wand and magic words. It makes us believe that life is a magic. As they process through the story/narrative, there are a lot of character who come in the way and help Eragon in some of the most difficult situations. He makes the best of each circumstances and ensures to make to sure to save the elf as he escapes jail.
