Inheritance Series – Review

The first post for this year -2026 and I am back with another book review of the Inheritance Series. The series was my first birthday gift given by my husband Karthik after marriage. It took me 5 months to actually complete the series as each book was 100 pages more than the previous one. The book has numerous back stories from the history which played vital role in war against the Galbatorix, King of Alagaesia empire. The king was a rider himself who the killed the riders (Forsworn) and their dragons whose vital role was to maintain peace and resolve issues of the people across the empire.

The king was known to use ancient language to get fealty or allegiance towards him. He was cruel, arrogant, dark and full of himself. There were different races – the Urgals, Elves, dwarfs, humans who were part of the Surda kingdom and the Varden – the rebel group were fighting against the Empire and overthrow the current king. At the same time there were dark creatures like Raz’ac and Durza who the king was using to do his biding whenever and wherever neccessary.

Eragon, the rider and his dragon Saphira played a vital role in fight against the Empire and Galbatorix. He along with other races plotted ways, went back into history and learnt and mended their ways along the way to win. Also an interesting race that I found in the book was were cats who worked in the shadows, were spies, informative, helpful and intelligent creatures who without taking too much noise contributed to the war in their own unique way.

The most mysterious character was Angela who irked my curiosity and would have loved to know more about her life in the story. But she is one of the many characters, not much was covered about her. She knew many things about the ways of life and her life was as adventurous as any other characters in the story.

The dragons in the story although there were part of the heart of the hearts fighting from behind and supporting Eragon and Saphira were more intelligent and have strong characters. They were showcases as more wise species sharing their wisdom to other races. They also outdid themselves in the stories.

But in terms of the story across the series, there are places especially the war portions were too lengthy. Since there were too many war or fighting sequence throughout the story I felt the few of them could be described more in shorter and critical sequence could have been elaborated more details. But for me I found the portion/sequence of the story where the Galbatorix is killed more evergripping.

Reading books started out as hobby and also stress buster. Gradually I developed a great passion in reading books. I was influenced by my dad to start writing what I read into a blog and hence started writing my own blog
